Tortoise escapes in Kristiine, community helps 15-year-old Nils find his pet

15-year-old Nils from Kristiine district in Tallinn lost his six-and-a-half-year-old tortoise Kilps when it wandered off from the yard on its own. The boy sought help through a community group, and his neighbours rallied to search for the pet.

In Tallinn's Kristiine district, 15-year-old Nils found himself in an unexpected situation when his beloved tortoise Kilps decided to independently venture away from the yard. Nils describes how he stepped inside for a moment to get water, and when he returned two minutes later, there was no trace of his pet.

"He likes to crawl under the bushes, makes little holes there and just sits," Nils explained Kilps' habits. This time, however, the tortoise chose adventure and disappeared in a flash.

Nils decided to turn to the community to find his pet and posted a message in the local neighbourhood group. The appeal was warmly received, the neighbourhood group sprang into action and local residents began actively searching for the tortoise.

The young man admits that when his phone started ringing, he didn't expect it at first. "I thought strangers don't call on random numbers like that during the day," Nils said with a smile. But it turned out the callers were caring neighbours who wanted to help.
