Travel experts' advice: three things to remove from hand luggage immediately
Hand luggage travel has become increasingly popular, but airlines such as Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways and Jet2 have imposed very strict rules. Experts warn that the smallest mistake can result in fines at the airport or force passengers to abandon their belongings.
CultureHand luggage travel has become a popular way to avoid additional fees, but due to stricter rules from airlines such as Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways and Jet2, incorrect packing can be costly for passengers. Airport experts have identified three items that should definitely be removed from luggage to avoid unexpected costs at the airport.
The first problem is liquids in containers exceeding the 100-millilitre limit. Many passengers forget that liquids allowed in hand luggage must all fit in a single transparent plastic bag, with each container not exceeding 100 ml. Large shampoo bottles, creams and even water bottles are often confiscated before the gates, which is why experts recommend removing these from luggage first.
Second, experts advise reviewing all sharp or cutting tools – scissors, pocket knives and even items with sharp ends. Although many passengers have carried these for years, airlines and security personnel have become increasingly vigilant. Third among the problem categories is excessive electronics and chargers, which can raise suspicions during security checks and extend processing time.
Ignoring this advice can result in significant financial penalties. Ryanair and easyJet charge fines for luggage rule violations that can range from tens to several hundred euros. Therefore, airlines recommend carefully checking your chosen airline's hand luggage requirements before every trip, as these differ significantly between carriers in terms of both permitted dimensions and weight restrictions.
