The Estonian national athletics team has been dealt a significant blow ahead of the upcoming outdoor season, with two of its top competitors ruled out entirely. Sprinter Karl Erik Nazarov and race walker Jekaterina Mirotvortseva have both confirmed they will not compete this summer.

The outdoor season is set to reach its peak in August with the European Athletics Championships, making the absences of both athletes particularly painful for Estonia's medal hopes. Neither Nazarov nor Mirotvortseva will take part in any part of the outdoor campaign.

The injuries are a major setback for the Estonian athletics federation, as both athletes had been considered key contenders heading into what was expected to be a strong summer for the national team. No timeline for their return to competition has yet been announced.
