Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has ratified a landmark 90 billion EU financial aid package, marking a significant step in securing long-term European support for the war-torn country.

According to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the first loan disbursements under the agreement are expected to be released in June, providing Kyiv with much-needed financial resources to sustain both its defence efforts and civilian infrastructure.

The aid package represents one of the largest single financial commitments the European Union has made to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022. The funds are designed to help stabilise Ukraine's economy and support reconstruction efforts amid ongoing conflict.

The ratification by the Verkhovna Rada clears a key procedural hurdle, allowing the European Union to move forward with disbursements on the agreed timeline. EU officials have emphasised that the package underscores Europe's long-term commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and economic resilience.
