Ukraine strikes Sevastopol, Voronezh, Taganrog and Tuapse oil refinery overnight
Ukrainian forces launched overnight drone and missile attacks on multiple Russian targets on May 27, hitting Sevastopol in occupied Crimea, Voronezh, and Taganrog. The Tuapse oil refinery in southern Russia was struck once again.
PoliticsUkrainian forces carried out a series of drone and missile strikes against Russian-held territory and southern Russia overnight on May 27, targeting locations including Sevastopol in Russian-occupied Crimea, the cities of Voronezh and Taganrog, and the Tuapse oil refinery on the Black Sea coast.
The Tuapse refinery, a strategically significant fuel processing facility in Krasnodar Krai, has now been hit multiple times during the conflict. Repeated strikes on Russian energy infrastructure have been a key element of Ukraine's long-range campaign aimed at degrading Russia's logistical and economic capacity to sustain its war effort.
Sevastopol, the main base of Russia's Black Sea Fleet in occupied Crimea, has been a frequent target of Ukrainian attacks throughout the war. Strikes on the city are intended to pressure Russian naval and military assets that play a direct role in operations against Ukraine's southern coast and grain export routes.
The cities of Voronezh and Taganrog, located in southern Russia, have increasingly come within range of Ukrainian strikes as Kyiv has expanded its use of domestically produced long-range drones and missiles. Taganrog, situated near the Ukrainian border on the Sea of Azov, hosts Russian military infrastructure that Ukraine has targeted on multiple previous occasions.
