On the 1,570th day of the Russia-Ukraine war, which coincided with Russia's national holiday known as Russia Day, Ukrainian drones attacked the city of Nizhnekasmsk, striking an apartment building and two oil refineries in Tatarstan.

At the same time, a fire broke out at an oil chemical facility in Tolyatti. Russian authorities have not released detailed comments on the attacks, but images show extensive fires.

Nizhnekasmsk is a strategically important industrial region for Russia in Tatarstan, home to production facilities of several major energy companies. The attacks on civilian housing and industrial facilities reflect the escalation of the war into Russia's deeper regions.

The Russia-Ukraine war has already lasted over four years, since Russia's full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022. In recent months, Ukraine has intensified drone attacks on energy infrastructure and industrial facilities located on Russian territory.
