Former Haapsalu Mayor Urmas Sukles announced that he intends to join the Centre Party and set his sights on the next Riigikogu elections. The 67-year-old politician confirmed that he will sign the application to join the party on 16 June 2026.

"If this interview is published after 16 June, I can say that on that day I will sign the application to join the Centre Party," said Sukles, adding that he will in all likelihood run as a candidate in the party's slate for Riigikogu elections.

A turning point in Sukles's political career came last October when he acknowledged electoral defeat in Haapsalu. This marked the end of Sukles's era spanning more than a quarter-century leading the resort town, a period that shaped Haapsalu's development significantly.
