Võnnu Kaera-Jaan festival in Tartumaa invites all cultures to Estonian folk dance

The Võnnu Kaera-Jaan folk heritage festival will take place on Saturday, May 30th in Võnnu village, Tartumaa, at the courtyard of the Gustav Suits House Museum. Now in its 26th year, the event is one of the biggest annual celebrations in Kastre parish.

This year's edition places intercultural dialogue at the heart of the programme. Organisers want to send a clear message: Estonian folk heritage belongs to everyone who calls this country home, regardless of their cultural background. In keeping with that spirit, admission to the event is free for all visitors.

First held in 1999, Võnnu Kaera-Jaan has grown into a beloved tradition in the region, drawing together folk dancers, musicians and audiences from across Estonia. The festival takes its name from the famous Estonian folk dance tune Kaera-Jaan, one of the most recognisable pieces in the national folk music repertoire.
