Warning issued in Elva over suspicious unsolicited repairmen approaching elderly residents
Residents of Elva have raised alarms about unknown individuals offering unsolicited roof and building repair services at homes, particularly targeting the elderly. The warning was shared via the Elva Facebook community group. Police are aware of the situation but have not yet recorded any formal violations or criminal complaints.
EestiResidents of Elva, a small town in southern Estonia, are being warned about suspicious individuals who have been turning up uninvited at private properties offering to carry out building and roof repair work. The alert was shared in the Elva Facebook community group after locals reported seeing unknown people with tools arriving at the homes of elderly residents.
According to the community warning, the individuals approach homeowners — in several cases grandparents — and offer to perform repairs without being asked. Such behaviour follows a pattern associated with so-called 'rogue traders', who often use high-pressure tactics or carry out unnecessary or substandard work at inflated prices.
Local police have confirmed they are aware of the situation. However, as of Monday afternoon, no specific violations had been officially recorded and no criminal complaint had been filed in connection with the incidents. Authorities are monitoring the situation.
Residents are being advised to remain cautious and not to allow unknown individuals onto their property without verifying credentials. Elderly family members are considered particularly vulnerable in such situations, and locals are encouraged to check in with relatives and remind them not to accept unsolicited repair offers.
