World number one Jannik Sinner has been knocked out of the French Open in Paris in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament in recent years. The Italian top seed lost to Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo, ranked 56th in the world, in a dramatic five-set contest.

Sinner appeared in control early in the match, with Cerundolo winning just three games across the opening two sets. However, the Argentine staged a remarkable comeback, claiming the final three sets convincingly to seal a 6:3, 6:2, 5:7, 1:6, 1:6 victory.

The result sends shockwaves through the draw at Roland Garros, removing the tournament's top favourite before the competition had even reached the third round. Sinner had been widely expected to challenge for the title in Paris.
