Rybakina, one of the tournament's top favourites, won the opening set 6:3 but was unable to sustain her dominance. Starodubtseva fought back to take the second set 6:1, forcing a decisive third. The match was ultimately settled in a tiebreak, with the Ukrainian prevailing 10:4 to complete a 3:6, 6:1, 7:6 (10:4) victory.
The result marks one of the biggest upsets of this year's Roland Garros, as Rybakina had been considered a strong contender for the title. Starodubtseva advances to the third round, continuing what is shaping up to be a remarkable tournament run.
