WRC driver Sami Pajari admits: I failed my driving test twice
Sami Pajari, the youngest driver for Toyota's rally team, has started this year's World Rally Championship season strongly. However, in a Finnish public broadcaster YLE podcast, he made a surprising revelation: when applying for his driving licence, he failed the driving test twice.
SportToyota's factory team has clearly dominated its rivals in the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC), leading the series from the start of the season. The team's youngest driver, Finn Sami Pajari, has stood out with a particularly strong start to the season.
Yet one of rally's major talents made a surprising confession when appearing on Finnish public broadcaster YLE's entertainment podcast: a few years ago, when applying for his driving licence, things did not go smoothly. Pajari openly admitted that he failed the regular driving test not once, but twice.
This fact is, at least on the surface, paradoxical-a man who can drive a car in extreme conditions on rally stages and at the highest level was unable to meet the requirements of an official examiner on his first or second attempt. Pajari's confession resonated widely with listeners and reminded many that the skills professional athletes display on the competition circuit do not necessarily translate automatically to everyday driving.
Remarkably, the Finnish driver's admission that he struggled with a standard driving test highlights the difference between competitive racing prowess and ordinary road safety standards-two very different skill sets.
