Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a stark warning on Friday, May 29, stating that Ukrainian intelligence has gathered evidence suggesting Russia is preparing a major new offensive operation. The warning comes on day 1,556 of the full-scale war launched by Russia against Ukraine.

In a separate incident underscoring the widening reach of the conflict, a Russian drone struck a residential building in the Romanian city of Galati. Romanian officials confirmed that an apartment block was damaged in the strike and that two people sustained light injuries as a result.

The Galati incident is among the latest examples of Russian drone activity causing damage or concern beyond Ukraine's own borders, raising alarm among NATO member states in the region. Romania, which shares a border with Ukraine along the Danube River, has previously reported drone debris falling on its territory.

Zelensky's intelligence warning signals that Ukrainian forces may be bracing for an intensified period of fighting in the weeks ahead.
